There are no words that
give justice to the accomplishment achieved by Sports University AAU 15 U
team of Fairfield NJ today. SPORTS UNIVERSITY has won the 2008 New Jersey
State D 2 title for 15 yr olds. with a resounding 74-53 win over the Hoops
Starz Gym Rats of Bergen County .
In only their 1st full season of AAU competition Sports University
achieved this title by running the table of games before them going 6-0
throughout the NJ State Tourney and beating teams by an average of 18 pt's
per game.
This is an impressive feat considering that all the teams Sports U faced
are legitimate recognized established programs who have always done well
in state and national tournament competition. A perfect example is the 32
point drubbing the Sports U team placed on the NJ Roadrunners in the Semi
Final Championship round.
General Mgr/Pres. Ed Bright states this is truly a total group
achievement. I must give so much credit to our great parents and coaches.
Our players, each being a star to their particular High School program
have totally bought into our philosophy. Hard work, teamwork, commitment,
get better each day and leadership no matter what your role is produces
great results. I was approached by 3 different team coaches and GM's
during the playoff rounds and told that what we have achieved in only our
1st season is unprecedented. I was also told by several D 1 coaches that
they believe our team is the best in the state they have seen whether D 2
or D 1.
Obviously now our sights are set squarely on the National Tournament July
7-11 in Little Rock Ark. All this after completing a week of competition
in ICELAND where we won the 1st International youth tournament against the
best 17-18 yr old teams in Iceland. And we are still just in the Month of
April.
